Healthy Shamrock Shake Recipe

March 9, 2018

A hack for leading a healthy lifestyle is finding healthier but enjoyable alternatives to your favorite junk foods.

I used to always treat myself to a Shamrock Shake from McDonalds each spring, but I now realize how the artificial junk (some of which are banned in Norway, Finland, Austria and France), and massive amounts of sugar is so opposite of whats important to me. Rather than focusing on deprivation, I focus on my desire to building a healthy body I am proud of, one that combats PCOS, creates an optimum environment for increasing fertility (since I'm currently TTC), and that feels well

A large, 22-ounce McDonald’s Shamrock Shake contains:
  • 820 calories

  • 22 grams of fat

  • 14 grams of saturated fat

  • 131 grams of total carbohydrates

  • 115 grams of sugar, thats 28.75 TEASPOONS!

Many of the ingredients in this drink have been linked to various health issues and behavioral traits including:

  • Acne

  • ADHD

  • Allergies

  • Blood sugar imbalances

  • Chronic inflammatory diseases

  • Fertility issues

  • Gastrointestinal issues such as colitis

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Hyperactivity

  • Immunity suppression

  • Leaky gut syndrome

  • Metabolic syndrome/obesity

  • Skin conditions

  • Weight gain

Now don't get me wrong, I used to be a sugar addict and a binge eater so just ditching all junk is easier said than done. I hope however you caught my first point here which is you have to have a "WHY"; something that gives a you a drive to succeed.

Also, I preach balance and I'm not opposed to indulging on occasion on something like a shamrock shake. So if you end up still getting on this year I wouldn't shame you. But try this healthier version, one which can be made and enjoyed all year round!

Healthy Shamrock Shake Recipe:

scoops or a single packet of alkaline raw super food vanilla powder

(hormone free whey or soy free plant based; Watch here to learn why I choose this            powder.)

5-8 organic mint leaves ( or a few drops of mint extract)

half a cup organic baby spinach (totally tasteless, just adds color and nutrients)

5 ice cubes

8-12 oz of water (or whatever your mini blender holds)

Combine all ingredients in your mini blender.

Blend for 10-15 seconds.

Drink and enjoy immediately!

This shake contains only 240 calories which makes for a great post work out or meal replacement. It packs your 90 essential nutrients, amino acids, digestive enzymes, has an alkaline ph, and is free pf artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, and soy.

One shake contains:

8g fat ( from MCT oil built into the superfood powder mix)

22g of low glycemic carbs

8 g of fiber

6 g of sugar

24 g of protein
